Chapel & Worship Director (1 Position)

The Chapel & Worship Director plans and leads meaningful, Christ-centered worship experiences for campers, guests, and staff. This role requires strong musical leadership and the ability to coordinate teams for corporate worship. Working closely with the Program Director, Media/Tech staff, and Camp Speakers, the Director ensures every gathering fosters spiritual growth and connection with God in alignment with the values of Portage Lake Bible Camp and the Evangelical Covenant Church.

General Qualifications

  • Age & Education: Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of one year of college or equivalent post-high school experience is required (two years preferred).

  • Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a foundational understanding of the Bible, and a strong desire to foster spiritual growth in others.

  • Character: Models Christ-like character with a positive, servant-hearted attitude and a team-player mindset.

  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Prior ministry leadership or camp experience is preferred.

  • Environment: Eager and able to live and serve in a rustic, “unplugged” camp setting.

Specific Qualifications

  • Musical Leadership: A deep passion for leading corporate worship and experience doing so in a church, school, or camp setting.

  • Technical Skill: Ability to lead and organize a band, a firm grasp of basic music theory, and proficiency in at least one instrument (multi-instrumental skills are highly desired).

  • Collaboration: Capable of partnering with diverse teams (tech, speakers, and leadership) to create cohesive services.

Duties & Responsibilities

Worship & Chapel Leadership

  • Service Planning: Partner with the Program team and Camp Speakers to plan and execute all Chapel services and worship gatherings.

  • Musical Oversight: Create weekly set lists, organize band members, and schedule necessary rehearsal times.

  • Special Events: Organize and oversee the worship for Family Camp Sunday Services.

  • Stewardship: Maintain the daily cleanliness of the Chapel and ensure all musical and sound equipment is organized, inventoried, and well-maintained.

Staff & Community Engagement

  • Discipleship: Serve as an initiator of a healthy, life-giving staff community and mentor others in their spiritual walk.

  • Training: Fully participate in all aspects of staff onboarding and training.

  • Cabin Support: Support counseling staff by engaging with an assigned cabin group throughout the day and sleeping in the cabin each night.

Operations & Safety

  • Accountability: Report directly to the Program Director and maintain timely attendance at all staff meetings and debriefs.

  • Program Involvement: Remain fully present for camp programming, including events and games.

  • General Service: Maintain a clean cabin and shared spaces; participate in general camp cleaning, maintenance, and kitchen assistance as needed.

  • Administration: Implement and enforce PLCBC policies, submit incident reports when necessary, and provide a thorough evaluation of the worship area at the end of the summer.

Note: As the Chapel & Worship Director, you set the spiritual tone for the camp. Your leadership helps remove distractions and invites every person into a deeper encounter with the presence of God.

**Applicants must commit to the entirety of the PLCBC summer season (end of May-mid August) to receive bonus.
