Arts & Crafts Director (2 Positions)

The Arts & Crafts Director plans and leads creative, safe, and engaging programming for campers while supporting the overall camp mission and community. This role requires strong organization, creativity, and group management skills, along with experience in art instruction or crafting. The Director works closely with the Program Director, manages supplies and shared spaces, and models Christian character consistent with the values of Portage Lake Bible Camp and the Evangelical Covenant Church.

General Qualifications

  • Age & Education: Must be at least 18 years old. Completion of at least one year of college or equivalent post-high school experience is required (two years preferred).

  • Spiritual Maturity: Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a foundational understanding of the Bible, and a desire to foster spiritual growth in others.

  • Character: Models Christ-like character with a positive, servant-hearted attitude and a team-player mindset.

  • Commitment: Alignment with the beliefs and values of PLCBC and the Evangelical Covenant Church.

  • Environment: Eager and able to live and serve in a rustic, “unplugged” camp setting.

  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Prior ministry leadership or camp experience is preferred.

Specific Qualifications

  • Instructional Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching art or possessing a wide variety of artistic and crafting skills.

  • Creative Planning: Ability to think “out-of-the-box” to organize, plan, and execute engaging projects.

  • Group Management: Excellent skills in managing groups of campers and maintaining an organized workspace.

Duties & Responsibilities

Area Leadership & Instruction

  • Program Execution: Plan and lead arts and crafts projects during free time and assist with other programmatic activities requiring creative supplies.

  • Stewardship: Maintain a tidy and organized craft area; manage inventory and order new supplies as needed or directed.

  • Safety & Policy: Promote a safe and fun environment; implement and enforce PLCBC policies and procedures, submitting incident reports when necessary.

  • Evaluation: Provide a thorough written evaluation of the Arts & Crafts area at the end of the summer season.

Camp Community & Discipleship

  • Staff Integration: Fully participate in training, onboarding, and all scheduled staff meetings and debriefs.

  • Community Building: Serve as an initiator of a healthy, life-giving staff culture.

  • Cabin Support: Support counseling staff by engaging with an assigned cabin throughout the day (as applicable).

  • Flexibility: This position may involve counseling duties if the Arts & Crafts area is adequately staffed.

General Operations

  • Accountability: Report directly to the Program Director.

  • Presence: Remain active in camp programming by attending events, games, and chapel services.

  • Service: Maintain a clean cabin and shared staff spaces; participate in general camp cleaning, maintenance, and kitchen assistance.

  • Reliability: Ensure timely attendance at all camp functions and responsibilities.

Note: As the Arts & Crafts Director, you provide campers with a unique outlet for self-expression and creativity, helping them discover their identity as a creation of God.

**Applicants must commit to the entirety of the PLCBC summer season (end of May-mid August) to receive bonus.

New staff applicants must have 3 types references: one academic, one spiritual, and one professional. Returning applicants are required to have 1 new reference. You may not use family members, peers or friends, anyone under the age of 18, or a current PLCBC staff member as a reference.
