Cleaning Crew (4 Positions)
The Cleaning Crew ensures the daily operation of camp by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming facilities for campers, guests, and staff. This role focuses on sanitizing cabins, bathhouses, and common areas while managing trash removal throughout the grounds.
Members work closely with the Facilities Director and Cleaning Crew Supervisor, participating fully in camp life and staff training. This position requires a positive attitude, a teachable spirit, and a willingness to serve while modeling Christian character consistent with Portage Lake Bible Camp and Evangelical Covenant Church values.
General Qualifications

Age Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old. (Staff of Senior High age are encouraged to attend Senior High week as campers).

Spiritual Alignment: Demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a foundational understanding of the Bible, and a commitment to the values of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Character: Models Christ-like behavior with a servant-hearted attitude and a desire to encourage spiritual growth in others.

Teamwork: Works well in a group setting and is willing to assist beyond assigned duties as needed.

Environment: Eager and able to live and serve in a rustic, “unplugged” camp setting.
Core Responsibilities
Camp Community & Programming

Active Participation: Engage in all aspects of staff training, onboarding, meetings, and debriefs.

Involvement: Attend camp events, games, and chapel unless otherwise directed by leadership.

Cabin Support: Support counseling staff by engaging with an assigned cabin during the day and sleeping in the cabin each night.
Daily Operations

Morning Tasks: During the chapel hour, clean cabin bathrooms, refill paper products, clean mirrors, and empty cabin/outdoor trash cans.

Afternoon Tasks: Clean common areas (Canteen, White House, Welcome Center, sports areas, etc.) and perform secondary checks on outdoor trash cans.

Waste Management: Remove trash from the dining hall after every meal and manage all outdoor receptacles.

General Maintenance: Assist with sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, and washing windows.
Specific Cleaning Expectations
Restrooms & Sanitation Thoroughly clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, and fixtures. Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, and hand soap while ensuring all trash bins are emptied.
Waste & Supply Management Collect and dispose of all camp trash into the main dumpster and replace liners in all receptacles. Keep cleaning closets restocked and ensure all chemicals and equipment are stored safely away from campers.
Reporting & Safety Promptly report maintenance issues or broken fixtures to the Cleaning Crew Supervisor. Strictly adhere to health and safety rules, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals.
Special Projects Be prepared to handle heavy-duty cleaning tasks as needed, such as carpet cleaning, deep-cleaning walls, or managing emesis (vomit) clean-up.
Note: Cleaning Crew members are responsible to the Facilities Director and may be assigned additional program or operational duties to support the overall mission of the camp.

**Reference letters do not have to be submitted just the application and the pending references.
**Applicants must commit to the entirety of the PLCBC summer season (end of May-mid August) to receive bonus.
New staff applicants must have 3 types references: one academic, one spiritual, and one professional. Returning applicants are required to have 1 new reference. You may not use family members, peers or friends, anyone under the age of 18, or a current PLCBC staff member as a reference.
