Program Coordinator Job Description
Overview
The Program Coordinator serves in a key leadership role at Portage Lake Bible Camp, helping create meaningful experiences that impact campers, guests, and staff for Christ. This is a unique opportunity to lead, disciple, and be mentored while developing ministry, leadership, and organizational skills within a vibrant Christian community. Through planning programs, supporting staff, and serving guests, you will play an instrumental role in advancing the mission of camp and helping others grow in their faith.
General Qualifications
- Age/Education: At least 18 years of age; completion of two years of college or two years post-high school.
- Spiritual Maturity: A personal relationship with the Lord and a basic understanding of the Bible.
- Character: A positive Christian role model with a servant-hearted attitude and a desire for personal and spiritual growth.
- Teamwork: A team-player mindset with a willingness to serve outside the job description when needed.
- Alignment: Commitment to living in accordance with the beliefs and values of Portage Lake Bible Camp and the Evangelical Covenant Church.
- Environment: Eager to live in a rustic, unplugged setting.
- Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred Experience: Ministry leadership or camp experience is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid, and/or Challenge Course Certification is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Discipleship
- Reporting: Responsible to the Program Director.
- Staff Mentorship: Conduct bi-weekly one-on-ones with assigned staff to disciple them in their relationship with God while providing feedback and support.
- Community Building: Act as an initiator and supporter of a healthy, life-giving staff community.
- Spiritual Engagement: Attend all chapel services and participate in all aspects of staff training.
Program Execution
- Planning: Work with the Co-Program Coordinator and Program Director to plan and execute summer programming.
- Activity Facilitation: Prepare for and lead small-group and large-group games/activities for all ages.
- Logistics: Coordinate staff assignments for free-time, cabin pairings, and counselor/co-counselor matching.
- Events: Oversee free-time tournaments, camper vs. staff games, and other camp-wide events.
- Debriefing: Lead weekly team debriefs for programming.
Stewardship & Support
- Equipment: Manage organization, inventory, and ordering of athletic equipment and supplies.
- Behavior Management: Assist with camper behavior management and staff conflict issues, maintaining open communication with the Director.
- Facility Care: Maintain a clean cabin and shared spaces; assist in general camp cleaning, maintenance, and kitchen duties as needed.
- Participation: Ensure timely attendance at all staff meetings and debriefs.

**Applicants must commit to the entirety of the PLCBC summer season (end of May-mid August) to receive bonus.
New staff applicants must have 3 types references: one academic, one spiritual, and one professional. Returning applicants are required to have 1 new reference. You may not use family members, peers or friends, anyone under the age of 18, or a current PLCBC staff member as a reference.
