SWIM Team Director
Overview
Our intention each summer is that the life of every person who comes to camp is impacted for Christ, including those who are on staff. As a summer staff member at Portage Lake Bible Camp, you will be stepping into an instrumental role of ministry and leadership. This is an opportunity to live in Christian community, lead and disciple campers, serve our guests, and be mentored in your walk with Christ. Our desire is to equip you well for your role this summer and give you skills and experience that you will use well beyond this summer.
General Qualifications
- Age/Education: At least 18 years of age; completion of at least two years of college or post-high school.
- Spiritual Maturity: A personal relationship with the Lord and a basic understanding of the Bible.
- Character: A positive Christian role model with a servant-hearted attitude and a desire to see others grow spiritually.
- Teamwork: A team-player mindset with a willingness to serve outside the job description when needed.
- Alignment: Commitment to living and acting in accordance with the beliefs and values of Portage Lake Bible Camp and the Evangelical Covenant Church.
- Environment: Eager to live in a rustic, unplugged setting.
- Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience: Ministry leadership or camp experience is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid, and/or Challenge Course Certification is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Discipleship
- Reporting: Responsible to the Program Director.
- Mentorship: Conduct bi-weekly one-on-ones with assigned SWIM campers to disciple them in their relationship with God and provide encouragement and feedback.
- Spiritual Lead: Lead Bible studies and small group discussions specifically for the SWIM Team.
- Community: Initiate and support a healthy, life-giving community among the SWIM team; attend all chapel services.
Program & Team Management
- Planning: Work closely with the Co-SWIM Team Director and Program Director to plan and execute summer programming.
- Training: Participate in and engage in all aspects of staff training and on-boarding for the SWIM Team.
- Supervision: Coordinate or provide direct supervision of the SWIM Team on weekends.
- Activities: Plan and facilitate various small-group and large-group games and team-building activities.
- Debriefing: Lead weekly team debriefs to evaluate and grow.
Operational Support
- Service: Work and serve alongside SWIM team campers in various tasks around camp.
- Behavior Management: Assist in camper behavior management and conflict resolution, maintaining communication with the Program Director.
- Stewardship: Maintain a clean and tidy cabin and shared spaces; assist in general camp cleaning, maintenance, and kitchen duties as needed.
- Participation: Ensure timely attendance and active participation in all staff meetings and debriefs.

**Reference letters do not have to be submitted just the application and the pending references.
**Applicants must commit to the entirety of the PLCBC summer season (end of May-mid August) to receive bonus.
New staff applicants must have 3 types references: one academic, one spiritual, and one professional. Returning applicants are required to have 1 new reference. You may not use family members, peers or friends, anyone under the age of 18, or a current PLCBC staff member as a reference.
