Why You Should Come to the Block Parties
Now I know this can’t possibly be true, but just in case you are sitting there wondering, “The Block Party sounds fun, but I’m not sure if I want to go.” I strongly urge you to keep reading. Last Sunday’s Detroit Area Block Party was SO much fun and there’s only one more chance to get a preview of summer 2016 at the Grand Rapids Area Block Party THIS Sunday! Here are a few (of infinite) reasons why you should come to Thornapple Covenant this Sunday afternoon:
Summer Staff
Everyone loves the staff! This event is a great way to meet this summer’s staff and get to know the people who will be counselors, cabin buddies, and role models for you or your children this summer. Portage Lake takes great pride in the quality of our staff as Christians, people, and workers, and they are just so much fun! Be sure to look for the crazy, helpful, nice folks in the tie dye shirts and get to know them because they want to get to know you!
Tie Dye!
Who doesn’t love a wonderful, colorful t-shirt?! Even though it’s Sunday, we’re going to turn Thornapple’s parking lot into TIE DYE TUESDAY! We’ll bring the shirts, you bring the creativity. And it’s totally free! The shirts this year have our awesome new logo on it so this will be your first chance to have some clothing repping the new look!
Camp Songs
One of my favorite things about camp is the music (I might be a little biased as a former worship leader, but the songs are just so fun!). It’s been so long since last summer, so if you are anything like me you are craving some Pharaoh Pharaoh and “PAPAYAS?!” After a couple hours of eating hotdogs and other picnic-y goodness, playing games, making some sweet tie dye, and hanging out, we will head inside the church to sing some songs with some of the Portage Lake band! So brush up on your motions and get pumped for a great time.
Jerry Jacoby
Our legendary Trailblazer speaker, Jerry Jacoby, will be at the block party, and will follow the camp band and some amazing camper testimonies in a time of songs and stories! “Uncle Jerry” loves the ministry of Portage Lake and is very excited to share his talents and experiences with all of us. It doesn’t matter if you are 3 or 103, you’ll love Jerry! Get ready to laugh, get ready to smile, and get ready to have a crazy fun time when he gets up on stage! And rumor has it Elmer will be with him so get pumped for that too!
A Chance to Win a Free Week of Camp!
Yup, that’s right! At the block party there will be a raffle drawing for a FREE week at PLCBC! Tickets are a dollar each, 6 for $5, or 25 for $20. After singing and stories and Jerry, we will pull out one ticket and one lucky kid will be going to camp free of charge. I can’t think of a better prize! Good luck to all who try to win!
